Sandra Johnson

November 17, 1942 — December 23, 2022

Sandra Alice May Johnson, known as Sandi, was born November 17, 1942 at the General Hospital in Wilkes-Barre, PA, and passed away December 23, 2022 at the age of 80 in her family’s Harveys Lake cottage, which she treasured since childhood.

Sandi will be lovingly remembered by her husband of 57 years, Glenn; son Matthew Johnson and spouse of Tigard, OR; daughter Kerstin Mukerji and spouse of Potomac, MD; and four grandchildren. She was predeceased by her parents Edgar and Bertha May of Kingston, PA.

Sandi spent her childhood in Kingston and Harveys Lake; graduated from Kingston High School in 1960; and received a BA and MA in Education from Pennsylvania State University. There, during her senior year, she met Glenn. On August 21, 1965 they were married.

Sandi applied her art education in many ways over the years, from being recognized as craftsman of the year by the New York State Fair, to teaching and owning her own business. She also created lasting contributions in Pennsylvania and Washington DC, as a dedicated active member of the Daughters of the American Revolution (D.A.R.) and Children of the American Revolution (C.A.R.). The most notable of these contributions being the Good Citizens High School Essay Program; the expansion of the Children’s Room Museum at C.A.R. headquarters; creating two Washington DC exhibits on George Washington’s Life and Native American Heritage; and overseeing the installment of an in-flight eagle bronze sculpture from Turner Sculpture, which is on display at the National Zoo. Locally, Sandi with her cousin Judy, spent five years creating a comprehensive book of the Ide Family near and far.

No matter where she resided, Sandi dove to be active in the community. Some of which included the St. Augustine Textile Guild, Gamble Rogers Music Festival, and the Florida based Marineland Right Whale Project. In addition to her community involvement and volunteer work, Sandi enjoyed being around family and friends; raising and training dogs; cheering on Penn State football; and advocating American history.

In respect of Sandi’s wishes, a private memorial with immediate family was held December 29th at her place of rest in the Idetown Cemetery, where she is surrounded by ancestors and relatives.

The family sends a special thank you to the healthcare providers and staff of the Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center PCU, Residential Hospice, Richard H. Disque Funeral Home, and Idetown Cemetery for their care and compassion.       Arrangements are under the direction of The Richard H. Disque Funeral Home, Inc. 2940 Memorial Highway, Dallas, Pa. 18612. On line condolences may be made at Disquefuneralhome.com
