Marjorie Trethaway

August 22, 1924 ~ November 11, 2021 (age 97)


     Marjorie Trethaway, 97, Parsons section of Wilkes-Barre, passed away Thursday, November 11, 2021, at Allied Hospice, Wilkes-Barre. Born in Wilkes-Barre, she was the daughter of the late Albert T. and Marie Williams Trethaway and was a graduate of Coughlin High School class of 1942 and completed all the local courses offered by the American Savings and Loan Institute, Chicago, Illinois.

      She was Vice President, Corporate Secretary and Board Member of First Federal Savings and Loan Association of Wilkes-Barre, which later became Franklin First Federal Savings and Loan Association. She was a past president of Northeastern Pa Chapter of the Savings and Loan Institute.

      Marjorie was a member of the Messiah Primitive Methodist Church. She was also a former member of the Parsons Primitive Methodist Church and the former Abbott United Methodist Church. While she was a member of Messiah Church, she was a member of the Pastor’s Relations Committee. She also was chair of administrator of Pastor’s Parish Relations Committee of the of the Abbott United Methodist Church.

    She was board member and treasurer for the Wyoming Valley Council of Churches, a board member for the Methodist Wyoming Conference Foundation and a member of the board of United Methodist Sky Lake camps.

   In addition to her service to the church she dedicated much of her life to her community. She was President and board Member of the American Savings and Loan Institute. She was a member of Osterhout library steering committee, and she served as chair of the Phonathon. She served as Chair of the board of Wilkes-Barre School District Business Education Advisory committee. She was member of the board of retired and Senior Volunteers Program, Chair of the visitation committee of the Greater Wilkes-Barre Chamber of Commerce and as member of the chamber membership benefits committee of Kings College Century Club. She also was a member of the President’s Council of Kings College and 1986 campaign chair. And a committee member of Rev. Paul Farber Golf tournament. She volunteered for many years as committee chair for United Way drives.

      Marjorie was preceded in death by brothers, Albert Trethaway, Harold Trethaway. Sister, Jane George. Niece Virginia Perrego, nephew, Thomas Trethaway. Surviving are numerous nieces and nephews.

   The family would like to extend a special thank you to her Visiting Angels for their kindness and compassion over the years in caring for Marjorie and for Allied Hospice Care for their special comfort. Donations may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.

     Funeral service will be held, Tuesday, November 16, 2021, at 11:00 AM from The Richard H. Disque Funeral Home, Inc. 2940 Memorial highway, Dallas, with The Rev. Reginald Thomas, officiating. Friends may call Monday from 6 to 8 PM. Online condolences may be made at
