William Javer

September 21, 1941 — January 13, 2018

William A. Javer, 76, West Pittston, formerly of Harveys Lake, passed away Saturday, January 13, 2018 at Celtic Hospice, Geisinger South, Wilkes-Barre. Born in Harveys Lake, he was the son of the late Tony and Helen Brin Javer. He was a graduate of Lake Noxen School in 1959 and later attended Williamsport Technical Institute where he received a degree as a machinist and tool and die maker. He worked at machine shops in the Wyoming Valley, including Knarr Brothers, Bruce Tool and Die as well as Proctor and Gamble in Mehoopany.

He was an Army veteran of Vietnam, specializing as a helicopter mechanic. In 1972 Bill took over his family business, Javer’s Store, and operated it until his retirement in 2015. Bill was well known as the kind of guy who would help anyone in need and give back to the community. He always enjoyed sitting in front of the store, waving and watching the passers by as they blew their horns and waved. Bill also enjoyed making crafts and furniture. Generations of customers would come to the store for their yearly Harveys Lake souvenirs and of course, their candy and ice cream. Many friends and neighbors could be seen sitting with Bill telling stories of the “Good Old Days”. Bill was a member of Our Lady of Victory Church, Harveys Lake and the Harveys Lake American Legion Post #967.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Mary Hartwyk. Surviving is his wife of 53 years, the former Shirley Gregory; sons Tony Javer and his wife Lynn and their son Michael and daughter Jocelyn; Greg Javer and his fiancée Jennifer Rosario and their daughter Elyse; sister Louise DeMichele; nephew Joe DeMichele and his wife Lynn and their son Ryan; niece Jane DeMichele; niece Michele Cartier and her husband John, and their children Alyssa and Jason; brother Fred Javer; nephew Rick Seigel; numerous cousins.

The funeral will be held Wednesday, January 17, 2018 at 9:30 am from The Richard H. Disque Funeral Home, Inc., 2940 Memorial Highway, Dallas, with  Funeral Mass at 10:00 at Our Lady of Victory Church, Harveys Lake. Interment will be at Perrego Cemetery, Harveys Lake.
