Sandra Louise Rostkowski, born on January 13, 1960, at the age of 65, passed away unexpectedly at her home. Born in Dallas, she was the daughter of the late Robert W. and Margaret Neivergelt Hislop and was a graduate of Dallas High School, Keystone College, and Lock Haven University where she achieved her Early Childhood Education Degree.
Sandra was the Director of Housing with Diakon for over 13 years, where her faithful companion, Copper, was her daily work assistant. She was a member of St. Ignatius Church, Kingston.
We ask that you remember her life for the way it was lived, and for the profound impact she had on the lives of those who had the pleasure of knowing her. Those who knew Sandy will remember her as an avid Penn State fan, for her infectious smile and laugh, her deep-rooted faith in God, volunteer work, and her unwavering commitment to spreading love and kindness to everyone she encountered.
Sandy was a dedicated volunteer. On behalf of CEO, she spent many holidays selflessly preparing and distributing meals to those in need and to home bound households. Her proudest volunteer role was with the Guide Dog Foundation for the Blind, where she raised and trained future guide dogs to serve and provide assistance to individuals who are blind or have low vision, and service dogs to veterans, active-duty service members, and first responders with disabilities, since 2011.
Sandy was gentle, inviting, and easy going. She had a young-at-heart spirit. You could get a flavor of this as she would carry on a conversation, tell stories of her adventures, or through witnessed play with her beloved grandchildren.
Although Sandy’s physical presence may no longer grace our lives, her legacy will continue to inspire and uplift us all. With a rare gift for making others smile and laugh- she leaves a lasting impression on all who crossed her path.
She is survived by her son, Michael Rostkowski, daughter-in-law, Amanda Rostkowski, and her grandchildren – her pride and joy, Cameron and Rosalyn Rostkowski. She also leaves behind a beloved brother, Chuck Hislop, sister-in-law, Joyce Hislop, along with extended family and countless, cherished, friends.
Family encourages those in attendance wear Penn State attire or blue / white colors in her honor at her services.
