Nelson J. Ashburner

Nelson J. Ashburner, 92, Dallas, passed away, Monday, October 6, 2025 at River View Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Wilkes- Barre. Born in Kunkle, he was the son of the late Ralph and Naomi Kunkle Ashburner and was a graduate of Dallas High School and Wilkes University with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Social Work.

Nelson was a former member of The Kunkle United Methodist Church and attended The Trucksville United Methodist Church. With Kunkle United Methodist Church he was a Sunday School Teacher. He was a banker with United Penn Bank for some years, later was a Social Worker with the Institute for Human Resources and Services, Kingston. Nelson would volunteer much of his time with The Back Mountain Food Pantry and Meadows Nursing Center. He had served his country proudly with the NAVY during the Korean conflict.

Nelson was preceded in death by a brother, Robert Ashburner and a niece Julia Ann Ashburner. Surviving are nephews, Russell Ashburner and his wife Florence, Rodney Ashburner and his wife Wendy, David Ashburner and his wife Karen, close friends including Maria and Leo Carr. A heartfelt thank you goes out to the staff at Riverview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Wilkes-Barre.

A memorial service will be held privately at the convenience of his family. Arrangements are under the direction of The Richard H. Disque Funeral Home, Inc., 2940 Memorial Highway, Dallas, PA. Interment will be in Fern Knoll Burial Park. On line condolences may be made at Disquefuneralhome.com
