Martha Joanne Soulliard

          Martha Joanne Soulliard ended her journey on earth on Monday, July 10, 2023 as she passed peacefully into the arms of God. Martha was born January 23, 1933, in Harrisburg, PA.  She was the daughter of the late Charles Liguori Soulliard and Dora Murphy Soulliard of Harrisburg, PA and was the eleventh of their twelve children.

         Martha graduated from Harrisburg Catholic High School in 1951.  She entered the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary religious order in Chester County, PA and as a Sister of IHM, Martha received her Bachelor’s Degree from Immaculata College.  She attended Temple University to enhance her studies in Social Work. Much of her life as Sister Maria Jacinta was spent caring for children in the Catholic Home Shelter in Philadelphia and later as Administrator of Guardian Angel Home in Philadelphia.  After many years in religious life, Martha left the convent and began a career as a Pennsylvania State employee.  After retirement, she continued her volunteer work with churches in the Catholic Diocese of Harrisburg.

        Martha was preceded in death by her parents, sisters Loretta E. Boone,  Dorothy C. Schuler, Eleanor G. Soulliard (Sr. Mary John SBS), Agnes M. Soulliard (Sr. Mary Amalia RSM), Mary Patricia Cusson, Gertrude E. Soulliard, Margaret T. Anderson, Virginia B. Gill, Dolores A. Schuhart, and her brother Charles E. Soulliard. She is survived by her brother, Richard Soulliard, Hershey; PA and many loving nieces and nephews.
