John “Jack” T. Callahan, 94, Oakhill, Dallas, passed away Monday, December 6, 2021 at The Meadows Nursing Center, Dallas. Born in Wilkes-Bare Township, he was the son of the late John and Caroline Yentoch Callahan and was a graduate of St. Mary’s School, Wilkes-Barre.
Jack was a member of Gate of Heaven Church, Dallas where he was a member of the Holy Name Society as well as the parish choir, where he was able to participate in a pastime that he cherished, singing. Jack was employed at Whitesell Brothers General Contractors for 40 years as Vice President of Sales and was affiliated with the local Home Builders Association. Jack enjoyed bowling with his late wife Joan and playing cards with his friends and neighbors. He was very proud of his yard and spent many hours working to keep it groomed and maintained. Jack also loved his cats Jake 1, Jake 2 and Jake 3.
Jack is preceded in death by his wife of 38 years Joan Pechkis Callahan, his brother Jerome Callahan, granddaughter Victoria Callahan (daughter of Rob and Maria Callahan), great grandson Kyle Callahan (son of Justin and Kimberly Callahan), and niece Marie Callahan (daughter of Donald and Winnie Callahan). Surviving are his daughter Nancy Dymond and husband Carl, Dallas. Sons Rick Callahan, Dallas and Robert Callahan, Lovettsville, VA. Brother Donald Callahan and wife Winnie, Mt. Top, 7 grandchildren, and 6 great grandchildren.
Funeral service will be held Saturday, December 11, 2021, at 9:00 AM from the Richard H. Disque Funeral Home, 2940 Memorial Highway, Dallas with a funeral mass at 10:30 AM at Gate of Heaven Church, Dallas. Interment will be at St. Mary’s Annunciation Cemetery, Pringle.
