James K. Brown, 70, of Shavertown, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 18, 2023, in Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center Intensive Care Unit, Wilkes-Barre. Born on November 19, 1952, in Kingston, he was the only son of Alfred James and Clara Bernice (Miller) Brown.
A lifelong resident of Shavertown, he was a graduate of Dallas Senior High School, Class of 1970. Jim was a career U.S. Postal Service mail carrier serving the Dallas community and proud member of his local postal union. He loved life, family and country and to this end gave his all.
He designed and built two family homes and enjoyed gardening his prized annual tomato harvest. Traveling, baseball and spectator sports, including Dallas Mountaineer football, were among his passions. In 2019 Jim courageously endured double-lung transplant surgery at Duke University Medical Center, Durham, NC. Following dedicated rehab and follow-up protocols, his ensuing years of renewed quality physical activities were a blessing.
Those who mourn his loving kindnesses are daughter, Rebecca Lynn (Cliff) Isaacs, Hillsborough, NC; sons, Dennis and Adam, Shavertown; grandchildren, Cameron Rakshys, Serena Isaacs, Sean, Brandon, and Kaleb Brown; step-grandchildren, Cooper and Patti Isaacs; sisters and caregivers, Barbara Randolph, Dallas, and Karen Tomasura, Shavertown; aunt, Mae Miller, Vergennes, VT; uncle, Donald Bunney, Leland, NC; and numerous nieces, nephews, grand-nephews, cousins and friends.
The family would like to thank all of his medical providers and particularly Alan Boonin, M.D.; Duke University Medical Center Lung Transplant Team; and Homebound Health Services.
