Hazel Garris

October 11, 1928 — January 22, 2022

One of Gods Earthy Angels was called home to sing in His heavenly choir.

Hazel L. Garris, 93, Dallas, passed away Saturday, January 22, 2022 at her home. Born in Trucksville, she was the daughter of the late Lewis and Bessie Hoover Roushey and was a graduate of Trucksville High School.

Hazel was a member of The Dallas United Methodist Church. She was very active in her church as well as the church choir and taught Sunday school for many years. For many years she prepared the sacraments for Communion including baking the breads, laundering and pressing the altar linens. She was a member of the women’s circle of the church. Hazel volunteered at the voting polls for many years and later was elected judge of elections a position she held for 35 years. She was also a Cub Scout leader when her sons were young.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Clifford in 2015, along with siblings John Roushey, Matilda Croom, Pearl Walton, Betty Shoemaker, and her twin sister Helen Gaylord. Surviving are her sons, Clifford Garris and his wife Nancy, Wyomissing, Howard Garris and his wife Nancy, Rockledge FL, Clark Garris and his longtime companion Denise Overman, Shavertown. She is also survived by her daughter and longtime caregiver Cindy Long, and her daughter Holly Takacs, Vickery, OH. She leaves behind 7 Grandchildren, 1 Great Granddaughter, Nieces and Nephews.

The family would like to express their sincere gratitude for the loving care shown to their mother by Homebound Health Services, nurse Mindy and aide Marsha, along with Compassionate Care Hospice.

Funeral service will be held Friday, January 28, 2022 at 11:00 AM from The Richard H. Disque Funeral Home, Inc, 2940 Memorial Highway, Dallas, Pa. with The Rev. David Walker, pastor, Dallas United Methodist Church, officiating. Interment will be in Chapel Lawn Memorial Park. Friends may call Thursday from 5 to 8 PM.
