Elwood "Woody" Labar

January 16, 1954 — August 11, 2022

Elwood "Woody" Alan LaBar, 68, went peacefully to meet his beloved savior, Jesus, on Thursday, August 11th, 2022, while at home with his wife and family.  Born on January 16th, 1954, in Kingston, PA, he was the son of the late Caddie and Florence (Park) LaBar.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 33 years, Nancy (Cooper) LaBar, and his brother Donald LaBar. He is survived by his and Nancy’s sons, David and Matthew (Rosemary), and his beloved wife, Brenda (Giza) LaBar, and her children that he welcomed and loved as his own: Rachel (Nick); Rebecca (Steve); Dani; and Josh Orehotsky.  He had two particular joys in life: mowing his lawn, and spending time with his cherished grandchildren: Simon, Elijah, Enzo, and Josie. He is also survived by brothers Caddie (Jan), Tim (Roberta), Larry (Karen), and sisters Ruth and Linda, and by his sisters-in-law, Dorothy (Bill); Ruth (Tom); Laura, and brothers-in-law Stan; Chris (Zoe); Jason (Christy), and his father and mother-in-law Stan and Jill Giza who treasured him like a son.  He is survived by countless nieces and nephews, their families, and many treasured friends who have become like family.

Woody attended Dallas High School and graduated in 1971, after which he continued running the auto garage in the family business. He had worked there since childhood, and in his many years, he created an enduring legacy as a trustworthy and generous man, always reaching out and meeting others in their needs.  He had the biggest heart in the Back Mountain and welcomed family, friends, customers and even strangers to his Christmas party every year.  He loved people, fishing, and hunting, and his deepest love was for his Savior Jesus Christ, never wavering in his commitment to Him. He could often be found praying with and for others, and lifting them up in spirit. His love for Christ and for his family was evident every day of his life. He will be immeasurably missed by those who hold him dear.

We would like to extend a special thanks to Dr. Greenwald and staff for their compassionate care of Woody these past two years. Friends may call at the viewing from 4:00 to 7:00 PM on Tuesday, August 16th, and his funeral will be held at 10:00 AM, Wednesday, August 17th. Both services will be at Noxen Bible Baptist Church, Noxen. Interment will take place at Idetown Cemetery immediately following the funeral. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Noxen Bible Baptist Church. You may also leave a memory of Woody on the family’s Facebook page: Messages for Woody LaBar. Arrangements are under the direction of The Richard H.
