Elizabeth E. Schray, 85, of Shavertown, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 3, 2025, at The Meadows Nursing Center in Dallas, surrounded by love and care. Born in Philadelphia, Betty was the cherished daughter of the late George and Elizabeth Gamble Doherty. She was a proud graduate of John Bartram High School and The Pierce School of Business, where she began the path of a life filled with grace, compassion, and quiet strength.
Betty shared a beautiful 64-year marriage with her devoted husband, John Schray, a bond built on love, laughter, and unwavering commitment. Together, they created a close-knit and loving family who were the center of Betty’s world.
She is survived by her beloved husband, John, at home; her daughter, Debbie Schray, of Thurmont, MD; her son, John Schray and his wife Nicole, of Nazareth, PA; and her treasured grandchildren, Elaine and her husband Chris, Quinn, Kiernan, Maggie, and Maura, each of whom brought her immense joy and pride. She is also survived by her dear sister, Janet Doherty.
A woman of deep faith, Betty was a devoted member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, where she joyfully participated in the choir, the DORCAS circle, and the Altar Guild. She gave generously of her time and talents, especially in raising funds for the church she loved so dearly.
Betty approached life with a quiet elegance and a vibrant spirit. She found happiness in the simple pleasures—bowling, golfing, playing cards, and spending time with her cherished friends. Betty traveled extensively around the world with both friends and family. She was a natural leader, serving as a senior manager in the business office at Commonwealth Telephone for many years, where her intelligence and dedication left a lasting impression.
Above all, Betty will be remembered for her warmth, her steady kindness, and the love she poured into her family, her faith, and her friendships. Her legacy of love and grace will continue to shine through the lives of all who knew and loved her.
A memorial service to celebrate Betty’s life will be held on Saturday, June 7, 2025, at 11:00 AM at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, 474 Yalick Road, Dallas, with Rev. Charles Grube officiating. Arrangements are under the care of The Richard H. Disque Funeral Home, 2940 Memorial Highway, Dallas, PA. Online condolences may be shared at disquefuneralhome.com.
