Elaine Sarah Charney

April 30, 1935 — January 27, 2024

Our Loving Mother, Elaine Sarah Charney of Belleview, Florida passed peacefully on January 27, 2024.  She was 88 years old.

Elaine was born in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania on April 30, 1935 to George and Regina Dieffenbacher. She loved growing up on Spring Street and spent many evenings playing baseball, shooting marbles, roller skating, and playing hide and seek with the neighborhood kids. She attended grade school at Holy Savior in Wilkes-Barre and graduated high school in 1953 from Lordesmont High School, Clarks Summit. Following graduation from high school, Elaine attended the Licensed Practical Nursing program at St Mary’s Hospital in Scranton, graduating in 1955.

Elaine was married to her husband John for more than 42 years and was a devoted military wife for over 20 years. During those years, she moved her young, growing family to Florida, Montana, Spain, California, Germany, Kansas, and back to Florida again. When her husband retired from the Air Force in the early 1970s, they moved to Dallas, Pennsylvania. As a young Mother, Elaine was a stay-at-home Mom to seven children. She was known for her clean home, neatly hanging clothes on the line, even throughout the winter, beautifully created crocheted Afghans, preparing daily family dinners we were all required to attend, and her delicious apple pies. Elaine’s calling in life was geriatric nursing and when the youngest of her children went to kindergarten, she went to work full time as a Licensed Practical Nurse, spending most of her years at the Meadows Nursing Center in Dallas.

Elaine was preceded in death by her husband John Joseph Charney, her son David Glenn Charney, her brother Paul Dieffenbacher and her sister Audrey Laure.  She is survived by her children Jack Charney (Melissa) of Hannibal, Missouri; Ken Charney (Sandy) of Dallas, Pennsylvania; Tina Charney Burgess (Robert) of Belleview, Florida; Elaine Charney of Colorado Springs, Colorado; Thomas Charney (Diana) of Allegan, Michigan; and Kevin Charney (Alli) of Tucker Georgia; a brother Joseph Dieffenbacher; nine grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Elaine will be greatly missed by her nieces Jean Gelatka and Joanne Fasciana whom she loved like daughters.
