Dorothy Lutinski

Harveys Lake

Dorothy Lutinski, of Harveys Lake, passed away peacefully at her home on January 31st, 2026, with her loving family by her side, ending her 99 plus years journey on this earth.

Born in 1926 and raised in Wyoming, PA, she was the youngest child of the late Andrew and Mary Yanchik Derzak and a graduate of Wyoming Memorial High School class of 1944. After high school, she began working in a dress factory, but her time there was cut short as her mother was critically ill and she was needed at home to help nurse her back to health. Within a couple years, Dorothy met her husband, Frank Lutinski, and was married in 1946 in Holy Trinity Church, Swoyersville. Together they built and grew their summer resort and rental business, meeting wonderful people from around the world and many who became lifelong friends. Dorothy also cherished being a homemaker and entertaining both family and friends with delicious food and wonderful hospitality.

Dorothy is one of the last living graduates of her high school and was involved in planning many class reunions. She was a former member of the Holy Trinity Church/Sodality, King’s College Reginas where she served as president, the Polish National Alliance, and Polish American Congress of Northeastern PA. She was also a member of NARFE (National Association for Retired Federal Employees) for over 40 years and held various positions and enjoyed being the Chairman of the annual Christmas party and June luncheons for several years. She was a faithful member of Our Lady of Victory Church at Harveys Lake where she was past president of the Altar & Rosary Society, a choir member for over 35 years, and lovingly made delicious goodies for many bake sales at the church. Dorothy was also honored and humbled to be celebrated as the oldest member of the parish who celebrated their 100th anniversary in September of 2023. A special mass was officiated by Bishop Joseph Bambera.

Dorothy was the family matriarch and a kind and generous person who made all birthdays and holidays special. She kept up with Slovak and Polish traditions in celebrating special Christmas Eve dinners, blessing of Easter food baskets, and cooking the most delicious ethnic foods. She was a tremendous cook and baker who enjoyed hosting family dinners and holiday get-togethers. She will be dearly missed and her family will continue to carry on her legacy and example in their daily lives and hearts.

Preceding her in death besides her parents and husband were her siblings: Joseph Derzak, Margaret Adzema, George Powers, Mary Derzak; and granddaughter, Jennifer Wyce. Also, special friends Jean Woronowicz, Mary Ellen Sichler, and many other dear friends.

Left to cherish Dorothy’s memory is her loving family: Dr. Richard (Colleen) Lutinski, Plattsburgh, NY; Diane Wyce, Berlin, New Jersey; Frank Lutinski Jr., Harveys Lake; and Darlene (Charles) Williams, Harveys Lake. Grandchildren include Jeanine (Jared) Belsky, Atlanta, Georgia; Christopher Wyce, Berlin, New Jersey; Albie J. Wyce III, Newfield, New Jersey; Attys. Jonathan (Vivienne) Lutinski, Washington, DC; Daniel Williams, Pittsburgh; and David Williams, Lancaster. Great-grandchildren include Jared Wyce, Avner Belsky, Alexandria Belsky, and Quinn Lutinski.

The family would like to thank Dr. Jane Durkin and Dr. John Ellis for their wonderful care over the many years.

Special thanks to Allied/John Heinz who always provided great encouragement and loving care for Dorothy to regain her independence after each visit. Additionally, a huge thank you to Hospice of the Sacred Heart, especially Joanie, Cathy, Erin, Lyndsey, Kat, and so many others who provided loving and exceptional care to Dorothy and support to her family in her final months.
