Shavertown

Denise Marie Gretton, 66, lost her courageous battle with Alzheimer/Parkinson’s disease Sunday, February 4, 2024.

Denise was born in Atchison, Kansas, on December 10, 1957, the daughter of Robert Lisle Noble and Doris May (VanWelden) Noble. She attended St. Joseph’s Elementary School and graduated from Mount St. Scholastica Academy (MSSA) in 1976. She attended Parks College, Denver, CO, earning an Associate Degree in Fashion Merchandising.

Upon returning to Atchison, Denise worked at Diebolt’s clothing store. She then started her own clothing business called “Lifestyles”. Denise and Terry L. Brown were married and made their home in Atchison for several years before moving to Kingston, PA. Denise and Terry later divorced. Denise was employed as a traveling Sales Representative for “Hang 10” calling on most of the many small clothing shops that once populated towns throughout PA. She always took along and cared for her beloved Yorky, Pebbles on those many, many trips.

Denise and Avery Thomas Gretton were married on May 27, 2000 in Springfield Center, NY. They had since made their home in Shavertown, PA.

Denise was employed as a sales representative and/or valued receptionist with a variety of area businesses over the years. Most recently she operated her pet sitting business and utilized her natural gifts for forming meaningful bonds with both her pet clients and pet owners.

Denise loved and lived life to the fullest. She loved to entertain and was excellent at setting up parties, luncheons, meetings, etc., for her friends and employers. Denise had a green thumb and always cultivated a beautiful array of flowers in her yard. She decorated her home with an artistic flare that was admired by many. Denise was best known for her gorgeous smile! She never met a stranger.

In addition to Avery, her husband of 24 years, Denise is survived by: her sister, Vanessa Diane Moore of Gulfport Mississippi; her niece, Elizabeth Anne “Buffy” Johannes of Reno Nevada; her great niece, Kenzie Elizabeth Johannes-Wilson of Reno, NV. She is preceded in death by her parents.
