Charles J. "Sparky" Young

January 6, 1939 — February 10, 2026

Dallas

Charles John Young, 87, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, February 10, 2026, at The Meadows Nursing Center in Dallas, Pennsylvania.

Born in Bloomsburg, he was the son of the late Max and Sarah (née Parks) Young. Known affectionately as “Sparky” to friends and “Pop” to family, he was a familiar and friendly presence to many and a deeply beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.

Sparky grew up in the Dallas area, attending local schools and working alongside his family on their farm, where he developed the strong work ethic and steady character that would define his life. From 1960 to 1964, he proudly served in the United States Army, including time stationed in Greenland. Throughout his working years, he held several roles that reflected both his reliability and his connection to the community. He drove cross-country trucking routes for over 25 years for Arthur Shelley and Kevin Ryman, and later served as a custodian at Dallas High School for more than a decade, where he was known not only for his dedication but also for driving Dallas sports teams and supporting local students.

He was a longtime member of East Dallas United Methodist Church and a proud member of the Daddow Isaacs American Legion Post #672 for more than 50 years.

He was preceded in death by his wife, the former Mary Young (née Hules), in 1993; Daughter Brenda Young Mission in 2006; Grandsons Jared Hoyt and John Young in 2021; and his sister, Elizabeth “Sis” Derby, in 2023.

He is survived by his daughter, Donna and Paul Reams of West Nanticoke; daughter Tracy and Thomas Pashinski of Plymouth; and son Charles Young Jr. of Dallas. He also leaves behind cherished grandchildren: Charles John Young III of Golden, Colorado; Eric Young of Dallas; Logan Young of Harveys Lake; Matthew and Alyssa Reams of Berryville, Virginia; Timothy and Jason Reams of Winchester, Virginia; Thomas “T.J.” and Faith Pashinski of Fort Dix, New Jersey; Mary Pashinski of Wind Gap, PA; Sarah Pashinski of Plymouth, PA; and Elizabeth Pashinski of Plymouth, PA. He is further survived by great-grandchildren Christopher Young, Carson Reams, and Addyson and Liam Young, along with several nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews.
