Beatrice Newell

February 2, 1925 — February 6, 2017

Beatrice A Newell, a resident of the Mercy Center in Dallas, passed away at the Celtic Hospice Center in Wilkes-Barre on February 6, 2017. Born on February 2, 1925 in Lemon Township, Wyoming County, she was the daughter of the late Tracey and Beatrice (Loughrey) Harvey. She was a graduate of Tunkhannock High School class of 1943. She was a member of the Huntsville United Methodist Church, past president of the Jackson Township Woman's Fire Auxiliary, and a former Brownie Troop leader. Beatrice enjoyed gardening, canning, sewing, dancing, and was a talented pianist/organist. She enjoyed traveling with her husband, especially to Ireland to visit her family. She is preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Holden A. Newell, Jr.; brothers John, Cyril, Irvin, Francis, Richard, and Joseph, sisters Theresa Price, Mary Robinson, Kay Bullock, daughter Teina Foell, and grandsons Kevin Newell, Terry D. Newell, and Timothy Reese. She is survived by her children, Rance L. and wife Joan, Richard L. and wife Alice, Holden A. III, John T. and wife Susan, Lester R. and wife Mary Ann, Terry M. and wife Diane, Mary Ann and husband Sam Brown, Deborah L. and husband Ron Murphy, and Denise M. and husband Phil Kaeferle. In addition to her children, Beatrice is survived by 27 grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren, her sister, Jane Sutliff, and many nieces and nephews. There was nothing in the world Beatrice loved more than her family. She will be greatly missed by all of the lives she touched. Memorial service will be held Saturday, February 11, 2017 at 11:00 am at The Richard H. Disque Funeral Home, 2940 Memorial Highway, Dallas with The Rev. Carol Coleman, pastor, Huntsville United Methodist Church, officiating. Interment will be in Orcutts Grove Cemetery, Noxen. Friends may call Saturday from 10:00 am until time of service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Huntsville United Methodist Church, 1233 Huntsville Rd., Shavertown or to Celtic Hospice and Home Health, 601 Wyoming Ave., Kingston, Pa. 18704.
