Alice Evans

Alice Marie Evans, age 95, of Trucksville, passed away peacefully on August 15, 2016, at Celtic Hospice in Wilkes-Barre, PA. Born in Tunkhannock, Pennsylvania, on January 2, 1921, she is the daughter of the late Harold and Etta Smith Holcomb. Alice and her family moved to the Back Mountain area when she was young, and she graduated from Kingston Township High School. She began working at Native Textile in Dallas and was employed there for twenty-five years. Alice then worked at JC Penney Company in Wilkes-Barre for eleven years until her retirement, and continued doing seamstress work at home for a number of years after retiring. Alice was married on December 31, 1948, to Jack L. Evans, a World War II hero. She was a member of the Trucksville United Methodist Church for more than 60 years and rarely missed a service. Preceding her in death were her husband Jack, her sister Mildred Holcomb Johnson, and her brothers Edward, Alfred and Harold. Alice will be greatly missed by many nieces and nephews, particularly Bill and Jean Long of Trucksville, whom Alice always cherished and depended on in her later years. She will also be missed by numerous grand and great nieces and nephews, whom have been a special part of her life, as well as her extended church family and many friends. Funeral will be held Friday, August 19, 2016 at 11:00 AM at The Richard H. Disque Funeral Home, Inc., 2940 Memorial Highway in Dallas, with The Rev. Dick Williams, pastor, Trucksville United Methodist Church, officiating. Friends and family may pay their last respects Thursday from 6 to 8 pm., and from 10 to 11 am before the funeral service. Following the service, interment will be at Chapel Lawn Cemetery, Dallas, Pennsylvania. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Trucksville United Methodist Church, 40 Knob Hill Road, Trucksville, PA 18708, or the American Cancer Institute for Cancer Research, 1759 R Street, NW, P.O. Box 97167, Washington, DC 20009-97167.
